A neighbourhood shaped by history, landscape, and people

The transformation of Flyvestation Værløse builds on the site’s unique cultural heritage and natural qualities, creating spaces where people, nature, and shared experiences can coexist.

The vision starts close to home. New homes, shared spaces, and green connections grow out of what already exists. Respecting the historic buildings, the surrounding landscape, and the communities already here, Third Nature in collaboration with COBE, has developed a holistic approach that links housing, landscape, and urban planning, providing a foundation for everyday life, social interaction, and lasting connections.

A masterplan guided by the everyday

Third Nature has been involved in Værløse Flyvestation on multiple levels: from the large-scale masterplan for the whole area, to the design of Bringegårdene and Officershusene, and the landscapes around the communal Hangar 3.

New homes and communities grow out of the existing structures and take inspiration from the site’s identity. Everything build responds to the character of the place - from cultural heritage to natural experiences.

In the search for a new and attractive neighbourhood, it is easy to lose sight of the  true purpose of the new district: the good life. At Sydlejren, change begins close to people and their daily lives. Our vision is rooted in a holistic, close-to-home approach, where the ultimate resource for transformation lies with each individual resident.

The masterplan builds on existing buildings and structures, connects green spaces, and establishes infrastructure based on a main distribution road and shared space residential streets. Each housing area’s character emerges from topography, building history, and the qualities of the landscape. The plan creates spaces for community, play, sport, and nature, strengthening connections between Flyvepladsen, Måløv, and Jonstrup.

Homes and landscapes in dialogue

Sydlejren features two types of housing: Bringegårdene and Officershusene. Bringegårdene are semi-detached houses arranged in circular clusters around shared courtyards, fostering neighbourly interaction while each home maintains private outdoor space. Officershusene, located by the protected Officers School, are staggered row houses with a focus on outdoor living, play, and green connections within shared streets.

The project gives residents opportunities for play, sport, socialising, and nature experiences. Sydlejren becomes a living urban landscape, where communities, history, and nature are active participants in the development - a neighbourhood where the good life can unfold on its own terms.

Today, Sydlejren has developed into an active and diverse neighbourhood, attracting a broad mix of residents. The combination of different housing types, shared spaces, and close proximity to nature has created a strong foundation for everyday life, where community and local belonging play a central role.
