Our winning concept is inspired by how the Danish landscape was shaped during the last Ice Age, creating a moraine landscape with a lake set high in the terrain. Around the lake, we've designed a varied and fully accessible path system that invites visitors to walk the whole way around, discovering different experiences along the edge. The project also includes a mountain bike track, community houses, a gear bank for shared equipment, and an excursion island with the possibility of diving.
Beyond the lake itself, the plans include a sandy beach, a bathing jetty, and changing facilities with a sauna. A new community house will serve as a gathering point for local associations and everyday users of the area, with space for storage, a small kitchen, and a shared room. New connections for walking, running and cycling will tie the area together, alongside a broad range of experiences and activities both on land and in the water.
Nordre Fælled is already a well-visited green space close to the city, with forest, bog and grassland. With the new bathing lake and facilities, the ambition is to create an iconic destination that brings culture, nature and outdoor life together at a new level - a place for both newcomers and experienced nature-goers, usable all year round and in all kinds of weather.
The project, "Spring ud i det," is backed by Randers Kommune, Naturstyrelsen, Bysekretariatet, A.P. Møller Fonden and Lokale og Anlægsfonden, with a total budget of DKK 59 million.
Joining us on the team are Aiming Spaces, CumPanis Advisory, and Christian Degn.
The work now moves into its next phase, starting with a preliminary design proposal that will form the basis for the local plan, necessary permits, and the upcoming construction tender.
